We have rapidly passed through the various seasons of the church and have now entered into the season of Lent. This is a wonderful time to enhance our Christian life with prayer, self-denial and acts of charity. Lent provides us an opportunity to renew our awareness of our union with our Lord and rely on our prayers to help us strengthen our love and hope for peace for all humankind and ourselves. It is my prayer that your observance of this Holy Season, serves to open your heart so you may embrace the joy of the Resurrection.
You recently elected your nominating committee to seek members to fulfill the officer positions. This is an awesome responsibility and often tends to be somewhat discouraging. I encourage you to tap into your God-given gifts and say YES when asked to serve in a leadership role as a court officer. Please do not be the individual that says, “Oh, I could never do that!” Take a chance – try it – you may just like it!
The national convention is just around the corner. I hope you have or will have fundraisers to assist your members that would like to attend. The New Mexico Catholic Daughters are very excited to extend their warm hospitality and the National Board has listened to your evaluations in the organization of this convention. We look forward to seeing you in Albuquerque!
LOCAL COURT OFFICERS – NOMINATING COMMITTEE PROCEDURES
Attached you will find the Local Court Nominating Committee Procedures. It is the responsibility of the Regent to give these procedures to the Chairman of the Nominating Committee upon her election. There is a section which should be retained and reviewed by the Regent to assist you in handling the business of Nominations and Elections.
The Local Financial Review form is enclosed. Please complete this form for the period 10/01/07 through 3/31/08, and return the original copy to the National Office NO LATER THAN MAY 1, 2008. Be sure to make copies for those indicated at the bottom of this form. As you prepare for your review, don’t forget to give financial support to our National Charities and Programs – they count on your generosity.

The National Board and the New Mexico Convention Committee will be meeting at the Hyatt Regency to finalize plans for the 52nd Biennial Convention. A final resource packet of important information will be sent to every regent - please be sure to share its contents with your court delegates. Delegate cards and the announcement of the slate of officers will be forthcoming later.
ALL ABOARD THE CDA TRAIN - MEMBERSHIP DRIVE:
Has your court or state sponsored a membership drive using the theme “All Aboard the CDA Train”? If not, it is never too late to plan a spring membership drive with a theme and incentives. The National membership drive will close March 31st, and awards will be given out at the National Convention in New Mexico, July of 2008. If your court or state used the theme “All Aboard the CDA Train” please email Vickie Broussard (National Membership Chair) at firstname.lastname@example.org and let her know of how the theme was implemented. Remember RECRUIT, RETAIN, AND RECRUIT!!
SPREAD THE LOVE FOR CDA TO CAMPUS COURTS
Have you thought of establishing a campus court? This very well might be the court you are looking to establish in your state. The enthusiasm these young ladies have for CDA is contagious. While in college, CDA provides an opportunity for the campus court members to create a spiritual bond with other young ladies seeking to include unity and charity in their daily lives. Upon leaving college life, these young ladies establish themselves in parish community life very well aware of what Catholic Daughters of the Americas are all about. By using their enthusiasm and knowledge, they may help to organize and establish senior courts in the cities and towns in which they settle. The guidelines for establishing campus courts were revised and distributed to the State Regents at their meeting in August 2007. If you interested in establishing a campus court, contact the National office or your State Regent for more information.
CIRCLE OF LOVE FORMS
All courts should have received the Circle of Love Reporting Forms from your State Regent. Your State Regent has determined the state deadline in order to have the National Chairman receive the State form no later than May 1, 2008. We realize that you are humble in reporting your achievements, but sharing tour experiences with your sisters throughout the organization will be an important resource and will assist in motivating others. Although a given court activity may have been recognized at your 2007 State Convention, if meritorious and carried out between April ¸2006 and March 31, 2007, it may be included in your Report. State Regents have the State Chairman forms and will be responsible for giving a copy to each designated chairman. Thank you for your participation. The Executive Committee met with the National Legislative Committee while in Washington, D.C. in January for the March for Life. It was good to have Joe Leary, CDA Legislative Counsel, back with us at the meeting. Tom Grenchik, Executive Director, Secretariat for Pro-Life Activities, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, addressed us on activities on which he would like to see Catholic Daughters involved. These activities plus other decisions as a result of the meeting will be announced as the year goes on.
MORALITY IN MEDIA
The approach we currently have to collecting membership dues and donations to Morality in Media appears to be working very well. A one-time annual court donation is sent directly to National Headquarters, and, in return, MIM receives one CDA check of support (see attached). Of course, if an individual in your court or the court itself wants to communicate directly with MIM, they may do so at any time.
ANNUAL CDA HISTORY LECTURE – SUNDAY, April 13, 2008
The title of the Annual Lecture will be “‘The Wageless Work of Paradise’: Catholic Sisters in Parochial Schools.” Kathleen Cummings, Associate Director of the Cushwa Center for the Study of American Catholicism and Professor of History at the University of Notre Dame will deliver her lecture at Catholic University of America (CUA) in Washington, DC, on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. The Lecture, which will be followed by a reception, will be held in Hannon Hall on the CUA campus. The National Board and members of the University staff look forward to greeting you.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Plans are being finalized for the two Catholic Daughters teams which will be going to build Habitat homes in Amecameca, Mexico during lent. This will be a great opportunity as Catholic Daughters share their concern for those in need of homes by working to build Habitat homes. Four houses are being sponsored by Catholic Daughters, two by National CDA and one by the State Court of Minnesota and one co-sponsored by National CDA and the State Court of Texas. The first Catholic Daughter team to go down will be lead by Lois Nelson, National Director from Minnesota. Also going on that trip will be the Minnesota First and Second Vice State Regents, Nancy Bambanek and Ellen Huneke, Ellen’s sister, and an ecumenical group of eight from Michigan who will complete their team. They will be building during the third week of Lent. During Holy week, eighteen people will be heading to Mexico to help complete the house builds and to be there for the Dedication of the homes on Holy Saturday. Leading that team will be National Secretary-Treasurer Shirley Seyfried and her son, Daniel. Also going on that team will be Shirley’s husband, Dave, National Regent, Claudia Bosch, and her husband, Jim, National Regent-elect, Libby Ramirez, National Director, Duchess Collins of Texas, Texas State Regent, Carolyn Bachmann, Texas First Vice State Regent, Carolyn Malik, Texas State Treasurer, Eve Trevino, Minnesota State Regent, Kathy Kennedy and her husband, Fred, Minnesota State Treasurer, Margee Keller, and her husband, Walt, Louise VanLeeuwe, Regent of Court St. Joan of Arc #1291 and her husband, Bob, of Marshall, MN, Tina Quinones, Court member from Marshall, MN, and Lindsay Jensen, the Vista worker for the Habitat Affiliate in Fergus Falls, MN. All of the participants are really getting excited about the trip and sharing their love and friendship with the people of Mexico. Please pray for safe travel and a very successful build in Mexico.
