    CDA Resolutions

    WHEREAS, Pope Benedict XVI will renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, February 28, 2013, because of his health;

    WHEREAS, the Papal Conclave of Cardinals will convene to elect a new Bishop of Rome; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, that we as Catholic Daughters of the Americas remember in prayer the goodness and strength of Pope Benedict XVI; and be it further

    RESOLVED, that the Papal Conclave of Cardinals be guided by the Holy Spirit in their election of the 266th Bishop of Rome.

    WHEREAS, There are many acts of violence similar to the Sandy Hook Elementary School, Newtown, Connecticut; and

    WHEREAS, there can be improvement in our mental health care and policies, prevention of violence, and school safety; and

    WHEREAS, Newtown, Connecticut, has made the Promise*; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, that we as Catholic Daughters of the Americas join Newtown, Connecticut and Promise to honor the twenty six lives lost at Sandy Hook Elementary School; and be it further

    RESOLVED, that we promise to do everything we can to encourage and support common sense solutions that make our communities and our country safer from similar acts of violence

    WHEREAS, Pope Benedict XVI's Apostolic Letter "Porta Fidei" a "Year of Faith" will begin on October 11, 2012 and conclude on November 24, 2013; and

    WHEREAS, October 11, 2012 is the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council; and

    WHEREAS, October 11, 2012 is the twentieth anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church; and

    WHEREAS, this will be a year to experience a conversion - to turn back to Jesus and enter into a deeper relationship with Him; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, that all Catholic Daughters of the Americas study and reflect on the documents of Vatican II and the catechism so they may deepen their knowledge of the faith.

    RESOLUTIONS FOR THE CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAS
    Adopted at the 54th Biennial National Convention
    Omaha, Nebraska
    July 2012

    WHEREAS, His Excellency, Bishop Glen John Provost, Bishop of the Diocese of Lake Charles, Louisiana, took the occasion of his "ad limina" visit to Rome to request the favor from the Holy Father through the Congregation of Divine Worship for permission to make a formal invitation to the Pope's ambassador to the United States to officiate at the Centennial Year of the historic Cathedral church's dedication in 2013; and

    WHEREAS, the Papal Nuncio, His Excellency, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganó has accepted the invitation to perform a special and privileged rite, "The Crowning of an Image of Our Lady in the Name and Authority of the Holy Father" at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Thursday, August 22, 2013, the Feast of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary; and

    WHEREAS, Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Viganó will use a crown that has been created by Roman artisans, who are purveyors to the Vatican, in a ceremony that is more commonly done in Europe and rarely in the United States; now, therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, that the Catholic Daughters of the Americas afford this historic opportunity to properly celebrate the centennial of the Cathedral church's dedication, renew their devotion to the Blessed Mother and her Divine Son, Jesus Christ, and foster a deeper union with the Holy Father and the See of St. Peter.

    WHEREAS, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas promote the dignity of all human life from conception to natural death; and

    WHEREAS, the practice of human-trafficking and slave labor is rampant throughout the world, even in the United States of America; and

    WHEREAS, the products sold in the United States often are made in factories abroad where women, children and some men are forced to work long hours for little or no pay; and

    WHEREAS, the power of the consumer will make a strong impact on these practices, therefore be it

    RESOLVED, that the Catholic Daughters of the Americas adopt a campaign to promote the purchase of Fair Trade items; and be it further

    RESOLVED, that members who are able download the APP Free2Work, which can scan an item and tell if it was made by slave labor; and be it further

    RESOLVED, that the members contact their elected officials to enact laws that prohibit the use of women and children as "objects of the economy rather than subjects of the economy".

    WHEREAS, Father Stanley Francis Rother, native Oklahoma priest and missionary, is being considered for sainthood, and

    WHEREAS, Father Rother was martyred on July 28, 1981, in Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala, for his extraordinary and courageous defense in his faith, and

    WHEREAS, he displayed the virtues of unity and charity while teaching, working with, and ministering to the natives, and

    WHEREAS, the lengthy process which could lead to his beatification and canonization is presently underway, therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, that the Catholic Daughters pray that he will be proclaimed by the universal Church as martyr and saint.
