Worried about Vocations? Read the Upcoming Summer issue of Share Magazine Peggy Eastman, Share editor If you’re worried about vocations to the religious life, you’re not alone. A major goal of the Catholic Daughters is supporting vocations in countless ways, including helping to fund “The Calling,” a documentary film on vocations directed and produced by David Ranghelli. The film presents candid portraits of three people drawn to the Catholic religious life, and what this choice means for them and their families. In the summer issue of Share, you’ll read an update by Tom Panas on “The Calling,” which was first featured in the spring 2008 issue of Share. The Catholic Daughters gave David seed money to make his film, and now that it is finished they have given him more money to help distribute and promote the film. “The Calling” has been endorsed by the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities and Simon Kilmurry, executive director for POV, the longest-running series on PBS (Public Broadcasting System) that broadcasts independent documentaries. “The Calling” has personal meaning for filmmaker Ranghelli, because he now has a daughter, Sophia, just 10 months old. “I gaze at Sophia and I can’t help but wonder if she will become a nun,” David says. |
